Dr. Taylor Schmidt was born and raised in Johnston, Iowa. She graduated magna cum laude from Iowa State University in Biochemistry, a university where her brother and four cousins also attended. It was during this time that Dr. Schmidt worked part time at a local optical store and got her first real experience with optometry as a career.
After college, she ventured to Memphis where she attended the Southern College of Optometry graduating cum laude and was presented with the Southern College of Optometry Outstanding Clinician award. She stayed involved during her tenure with Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) which took her to the Dominican Republic to provide eye exams and donated glasses to hundreds of individuals in need. She then pursued additional optometric training by completing a residency in ocular disease and low vision rehabilitation at the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago, IL.
In her free time, Dr. Schmidt loves going to the Lake of the Ozarks with her family to enjoy boating and slalom skiing. It was at the lake working a summer job that she met her husband, Zac Schmidt. She is an avid Iowa State football and St. Louis Blues fan. During the winter months, Dr. Schmidt and her husband enjoy traveling to Keystone Resort in Colorado with their friends to snow ski and enjoy the views. Her biggest obsession is her dog California “Cali” Jean, an all black rescue mix who thrives at the lake as much as she and Zac do, and was actually the flower girl at their wedding.
